Happy Fat Tuesday!!

There was discussion between several of us about heading to Mardi Gras this year. Then the hurricane hit and we weren't sure what was going to happen. Well, as I am sure you can tell, we never developed any plans and it sort of got shoved off. I didn't know what the condition of the city would be and didn't want to commit to anything.

I have been to Mardi Gras twice before and it has been a blast. I went with my ex from college who was from that area. We stayed in an apartment right off Bourbon St., saw Cowboy Mouth at the HOB, went to get beignets at Cafe DuMond at 4:00 in the morning, got margaritas at Margaritaville, and lastly I got my wallet pick-pocketed. However, I had such a great time!! It was dirty and crowded and we were drunk, but it was great. I hope to go again with some of my good friends and family now. It was fun with my ex and her friends, but I hope to make it back with mine.

I know N.O. still has a long way to go to get back to the way it was. And on a day like today, I just wanted to say that I hope it will be back and even stronger very soon!!

Jimmy was Spotted!!

Right after I found out about the tour schedule for Jimmy, I got a message from my Mom that said she had just seen the Man himself. So jealous. I am dying to meet him!! She decided to respect his privacy and not to bother him while he was busy. That is some self restraint that I don't think I could muster... I think I need to start hanging out with my Mom some more.

Slightly Unexpected Weekend...

What a weekend... Not quite like last weekend, but not too entirely different either. Not the weekend that I was expecting to have, but parts were good nonetheless.

I'll start off with Friday night. I was not really planning on going to the happy hour at McFadden's that my friend from work had won, but after a bunch of arm twisting, I succumbed. I was going to play it easy, have a beer or two, grab some dinner, and head home. I drove into the city with that in mind. However, that didn't happen. I didn't get a wristband, so I wouldn't get the open bar. Instead I had the 2 for 1 special, and then a 3rd beer. This is where things go downhill. I was fine not having any more drinks, I didn't have the cash for it anyway, but then not wanting me to leave, my friends decided to buy me drinks. Lucky me. On any other night, I would have totally been down for that, but I wasn't prepared this night. So after having more than I wanted, off we went to take the metro to 4 Courts, since my car wasn't going anywhere with me! We were there till about close and then I was very nicely given a ride home. Not the night I was expecting to have.

So I woke up, not hung over, but not feeling too spunky. I watched some TV, went to the dog park, and had lunch. Not too different from what I was planning on doing. Then I went to the mall to get a few things. I decided that I needed TV Trays because I was sick of trying to eat on the couch, but having to hold my plate. I was also headed to the Verizon store because I was intent upon getting rid of the dial-up internet, joining the 21st century and buying a wireless PC Card. After a day and a half of it, I love it! Then it was home for the GW game. But for some reason, I had noticed that the weather was 60 degrees, and I still had not retrieved my car from the city. A perfect opportunity to break out my bike and ride in and pick up my car. What a nice afternoon it was!

Then I watched the GW game and watched them win again!!! Despite not having Pops after he hurt his knee last week. I had some dinner and then got ready for a party at a friends place in CC. I was there for about 2 and a half hours before I decided to go meet some other friends in the city. While at the party though, I consumed a lot of beverages without even thinking about it. There was a great homemade sangria that I devoured and then moved on to making strong rum and cokes for myself. Trouble, Trouble, Trouble... So by the time I got downtown I was feeling good. I was down there for a while, made my way out the metro to VA, got some food, and stumbled my way to a cab to go home. The night didn't end all that well though, with some injuries to my knee, hand, and forehead. I'm ok, I just look a bit rough.

My day on Sunday didn't start until about 2:30 though, and I was a bit sore when I woke up. I headed to the dog park and then didn't leave the couch much the rest of the day. I watched Tony blow up an engine when he was having a pretty good day at the track, and I watched my Grey's. Then I went to bed. And oh yea, did I say how much I enjoyed my new wireless internet!

Summer Tour Announced!!!

Well, it looks like Jimmy is actually going to be touring this Summer despite dropping hints that he wasn't going to be. The key date for me will be the Nissan show on Thursday August 3rd!! That is a Great way to start out the Tri Club Championship Race Weekend, huh??

Happy Hour

It takes a lot for me to miss out on a Happy Hour. And this one was no different. I met a lot of great people here on Wed. night at Lucky Bar.

I have been pretty busy with training and stuff at work, hence the reason I missed the "after-party!" So I haven't had a chance to write up a re-cap, but it was a ton of fun and I'm looking forward to the next one. It's kinda funny how I seem to get involved in groups of people that really like going out and drinking... huh. :)

Crazy Weekend: Part 2 (long)

Where to begin... Well, the trouble making started waaay before the weekend on Tuesday night with Valentine's Day. My friend Grant from CA was coming into town and I knew I was in for some trouble. We started that night with some of his family friends taking us out to dinner at Chadwicks. We left his friends and headed up to M St. to find a bar with something going on.

Well, I was surprised to see that this task was going to be a bit harder than I expected. We cruised down one side, consistently finding empty bar, but full restaurant. Maybe we were just a little bit early. We finally decided that we would head to the Tombs. We figured there was always something going on there, and there could be cute G-Town girls to talk to. Well, we succeeded in finding some American girls, so our mission was accomplished.

The next night we went to the GW basketball game. We grabbed a few drinks beforehand and then went out for dinner and drinks afterwards. These nights aren't quite what you would call crazy nights, but they are just building up to the actual weekend...

Thursday night is where the real crazy part begins. Grant and I started out at the DC Tri Happy Hour on Capitol Hill. Normally we have appetizers to tide us over and we can usually make a pretty good dinner out of that, but not that night. (This will prove to be an important point later...) We had a number of beers there and then decided that it was time to head off to the Dupont area to hit some bars with some other friends. Our first stop was at the Big Hunt where we met 6 others. Once we were all there and had had enough of the place, off we went to the Front Page. Another round of drinks here and it was off to Madhatter for some dancing, and of course, more beer. And remember there was no food in my stomach to soak up the beer... Supposedly on our way back home, Grant and I met some girls headed home also, however I don't remember this at all. I still ended up with her number somehow though!

Despite having a nice little hangover going on Friday during the day, we were all jazzed up to head back out. Plus, our friend Russ came into town to hang out with us. We decided to head to G-town this night. We started at Grant's friends house in upper G-town and then made our way to the Tombs again. We had some food there, had some beers, and said a brief hello to the girls that we met on Tuesday. It was off to Rhino bar for a little bit of fun. There was a Bud Light promotion going on here that we got involved in: a Rock-Paper-Scissors competition. I made it to the final round and won a beer and an Extra-Large t-shirt. Go Me! I also saw the girl we met on Thursday as she was leaving. (I only knew who she was because Grant reminded me.) After enough time at Rhino, we stopped at one last place, Garrets. I don't remember much from that stop or from the rest of the night. I do remember waking up on the couch of a friends apartment. Then in the cab on the way home I was still drunk and thought we were going the wrong way, so I told the guy. He informed me that I was incorrect, so I fell asleep.

Again, after a nice hangover on Saturday, we were all set to go out again. I tell you, the things I do for my friends when they come to visit me... I started the night watching the GW basketball game at Bungalow. From there I headed into the city to wait for Russ and Grant to finish dinner, so I had some beers at the Red Lion and watched some Olympics. After that, they wanted to go to this new place called Lima, near DC Coast, but I wasn't feeling it, even after 2 beers, so we jumped into a cab and headed to Adams Morgan. We started at the Reef, but it was packed and no fun, so we went to Angry Inch for the rest of the night. They have such an eclectic mix of music there, but it is fun! Lots of dancing and more beer!! Then it was time for Pizza Mart. However, it was a cold night and I didn't get all of my pizza eaten before the end of it froze. Oh well, another good night out in DC!

Sunday morning we all woke up at my house after crashing from our fun night. Grant was nice enough to run out and get food and make up a gourmet breakfast of fancy breakfast burritos. It was really good. Then I sat around the rest of the day watched the Daytona 500 and cheered on my boy Tony Stewart. What a crazy race that he had! He was up at the front, then sent to the rear of the field several times and still managed to get back to 5th. Even with a slightly damaged car! Imagine how good he would have been if he hadn't been all hot-headed... Oh well, its a stressful race.

So there you have it, our crazy week/weekend. It is always an adventure when Grant and Russ come to town. It had been a while since the three of us had been together. Let's hope it isn't as long the next time!!

Crazy Weekend

What a great, crazy, fun weekend I had!! I will go into more detail tomorrow hopefully, but I am feeling a bit under the weather right now. I guess I should have been paying better attention to my immune system while we were out drinking this weekend. Oh well! Happy President's Day!!

GW Colonials

I went to the GW basketball game last night for the first time in a really long time. I think the last time I was in the Smith Center for a game was probably 2 years ago. It was a lot of fun though! Fortunately I still have my GW student ID so I was able to cruise in the student entrance and not have to pay anything. The joys of looking young!! :) The crowd was great and I saw a few people from school that I hadn't seen in a long time, like my freshman year roommate Lou.

The game was definitely interesting though... The Post does a good job of describing how sloppy a game it was. Terrible passing leading to turnovers and awful shooting from the field were the main issues. However, it was very important to note that GW in the past has not been very good at getting the last second win. They usually lose the really close games that they are in. You can definitely tell that this team is growing together by being able to overcome the terrible mistakes they made and still come out on top.

Way to go Colonials!!

New Project!

I was assigned a new project at work. I was told that it is going to be very high visibilty and that I am going to be "the point man" for coordinating it. And this is not a small job at all. I am not sure what the bids are coming in at, but I think the estimate is in the $10 millions. I am a little nervous now. I was just given about 6 big binders of the specs that I have to go through. Then I have to brief my chain of command on the project and any potential problems that I see that could arise. Wow... this will be by far the biggest and most stressful thing that I will have done at work ever. It's going to be an adventure!! Wish me luck....

Valentine's Day

I am not a huge fan of Valentine's Day. I do not like that people make such a big deal about being romantic on this one day of the year. And I am not saying that because I don't have any plans for tonight. If you know me, you probably know that I am a romantic at heart. Although you may not know it, because it does not come out all the time, usually just with someone special. I will admit it, since this is supposed to be a sensitive day: I like chick flicks. I think they may be the source of my romanticism. I love it when the guy and girl finally get together. A nice happy ending. Anyway, back to V-Day. I think that people should be romantic all the time and show the people around them that they care more than just one day in February. That's my take...

Oh, and Happy V-Day to everyone!

Capitals - Pens Game and more...

The Penguins came to town last night for their first of 2 visits to the MCI Center. I was able to get 2 good tickets on Wednesday. The place was the most packed that I have seen all season, and as usual, there were tons of Pens fans! The game was great! The first period was pretty well dominated by the Caps, but the Pens were kept in it by some excellent goaltending by Fleury. There was some good fighting also! The Pens then began to walk away with it and were up 5-0 at one point. In the 3rd round of Crosby vs. Ovechkin, the prize goes to Sid, for the 3rd time. I got tickets to the next time they come to town in March, so I will be looking for a clean sweep by the Pens on the season.

The night just go more exciting from there though. Tod and I went to Rhino bar where some friends of his were having a $25 all you can drink party. As we all know from the Fridays at McFadden's, those can be dangerous. Managed to get into a little bit of trouble, ;) and had a great time! Definitely what I needed to prepare for Grant and Russ's visit next weekend!!

Sad News and Good News!!

I'll start with the sad news. Love Monkey is being put on hiatus from CBS. This is very distressing. I didn't think it was the best show in the world, but after 3 episodes, how could you even make this kind of judgement? I don't think it was given enought ime to blossom. I am very sad for Tom... First ED and now this.

On to the good news... Ken Whisenhunt has decided to stay with the Superbowl XL Champion Steelers!!! This is very exciting to me. He may not have had the best game plan for the superbowl game, but everything that he showed in the post-season up to that point was very impressive. I am glad that he did not go to the black hole that is Oakland.

Let's go Steelers!!

Flat Tires

I have had some bad luck with tires on my cars. In the last number of years, I have replaced 5 tires due to having flats. And I had to fix a 6th one on a van that I rented! I wonder if I am jinxed for some reason?? It all started with the van, so maybe that is a sign that I am jinxed. I was taking a group of people to the New River Gorge to go rafting and on I-81 we were cruising along, and all of a sudden we had a blow-out. It was pretty scary, but nothing else went wrong, despite the blown tire.

Then, I had two nails in one tire on my Pathfinder. That was a drag. Not too long after that, I got another nail in a different tire. So that makes three. The next two have been on my allroad. They were due to another nail and then a bulge in the tire on the inside of it, that I couldn't see. Luckily that one didn't blow out!

Now I am at it again with the latest one. I come out to my car on Tuesday morning to find the front right tire flat. It was a cut in the sidewall that had opened up. I ahve no idea how it got there! I am pretty good about not hitting any curbs! Well, fortunately I have been able to drive my Land Cruiser the last few days. I dropped off the allroad today at the dealer, it needed and oil change anyway! Grr, I hope my streak of tires ends at 6!!!

2006 Superbowl Champions!!!!

I am on cloud 9 right now!! I am sooooo happy. The Steelers have done it. They finally have One for the Thumb!!!!! The Bus has gone out the way a true Champion should be able to leave the game, on top. This is so exciting... I can't even begin to describe how I am feeling. There was a huge range of emotions throughout the game, but the one as the clocks hit 0:00 was the greatest!!

Congrats to The Bus, Hines Ward, Bill Cowher, the Rooneys, and the rest of the team. They got what they deserved, a Championship!!!!!

Yea GW!!!

Woo Hoo!!! After 6 consecutive losses at Xavier, GW finally won a game! What a good game it was. GW was down by a lot through out the first half, but made it back to dwon by 10 for the half. Then we decided to step it up and by about 6 minutes left, we took the lead and despite a few come backs, we held Xavier off for the win. Such a good game!! Go GW!!!!!!
